We have a customer in the furniture industry with a philosophy of incorporating environmental excellence into their products. They desired an office chair that met criteria established in the Leadership and Energy Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building rating System, developed by the US Green Building Council, a certification program designed to support the worldwide adoption of sustainable green building.
Melet's engineering team integrated a natural fiber composite material as the chair's structural foundation, and utilized compression-thermal forming to mold an optimal shape for seating comfort. Natural fiber composites are strong, lightweight and made of renewable, sustainable materials thus meeting the need for a "Green" solution. The innovative use of natural fibers in the molded shell resulted in an award winning chair, while allowing customers the ability to work towards achieving LEED credits.
