Overmolded Gaskets

Our customer required an injection molded eggcrate component with integrated overmolded gaskets on both sides of the part. The gasket features allow the display enclosure assembly to be completely sealed from the environment for use in an industrial application.

Due to the low production volume requirements for this part Melet chose to use a dual mold manufacturing process.
The first mold would create the rigid eggcrate part using PC/ABS resin. By placing the first shot directly into a second mold the gasket features could be overmolded using a TPE resin. The process bonds the two materials together creating a robust gasket feature within the part. By using this innovative overmolding technology Melet eliminated the need for any secondary processes such as gluing, welding, or manual assembly.
