Multiple action molds

This customer required a complicated plastic diffuser for use in a floor ventilation system. The product presented several engineering challenges including heavy point load requirements, flame retardant specifications, and multiple undercut features at extreme angles.

Melet's engineering team started by fine tuning the product design to make it injection moldable while still maintaining sufficient strength. We selected a specialty engineering resin which met all of the flammability and mechanical requirements. Next, a complicated tooling design was developed using 16 external slide actions and 32 internal multi-angle lifter mechanisms. The entire mold assembly was manufactured in our internal toolroom with a heavy reliance on advanced CNC wire EDM technology.
